Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

At Revive Health Recovery, we believe in the power of resilience, the strength of human spirit, and the potential for change. We are proud to offer Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) as a core component of our therapeutic strategies. It’s a life-changing approach that can pave the way for emotional balance, enhanced resilience, and positive mental health.
What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy?
DBT is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy that was initially designed to help people with borderline personality disorder. This treatment approach has proven its efficacy over the years and is now widely used for a variety of mental health and substance abuse disorders. DBT promotes acceptance and change, two seeming opposites, to bring about positive mental health outcomes. It helps individuals manage their feelings, enhance their relationships, and find peace in the present moment.
Case Studies
In a 2014 study published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, individuals with borderline personality disorder who underwent DBT treatment showed significantly lower incidences of self-harming behaviors and were more likely to continue with therapy than those in other treatment protocols.

DBT and Substance Abuse Disorders
DBT is also beneficial in addressing substance abuse disorders, including alcohol and drug dependence. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recognizes DBT as an effective treatment method for substance abuse disorders. This is primarily because DBT helps individuals to control their impulses, improve their emotional management, and handle stressful situations without resorting to harmful substances.
A randomized controlled trial published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology in 2012 found that patients receiving DBT for substance use showed significantly reduced substance abuse six months post-treatment compared to those receiving standard treatment.
At Revive Health Recovery, our trained and experienced therapists utilize DBT to help our clients learn four critical skills: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
Our program is tailored to fit the unique needs of each individual. It usually includes weekly individual therapy sessions, group skill training sessions, and phone coaching as needed. Our therapists will help you navigate through your challenges and find the balance in your life.
We understand that taking the first step towards recovery can be challenging. That’s why we make sure that our environment is supportive, respectful, and non-judgmental.
Success Stories
Take the case of Sarah, a client diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and a history of self-harm. Through our DBT program, Sarah learned to manage her emotions and to build healthier relationships. Now, she is happily married and thriving in her career.
Then there’s Mike, who was struggling with alcohol dependence when he came to us. With DBT, he was able to develop coping mechanisms that helped him stay sober. Today, he is living a fulfilling life, free from the chains of substance abuse.
